Recently, Mizzou underwent a Learning Management System (LMS) review, which included faculty and student focus groups, surveys, test drives, vendor demos and full-scale pilots of Instructure Canvas. The process concluded in January 2016 with a final recommendation that the University of Missouri-Columbia move to a cloud-based model, Canvas. The university’s contract with Blackboard Learn expires in December 2017.
I’m happy to report that the conversion is going extremely well – 32 percent of our requests for Fall 2016 were for a Canvas site. The spring semester is looking even more promising – about 66 percent of the sites that have been requested so far for Spring 2017 are on Canvas.
If you haven’t already converted from Blackboard to Canvas, we are here for you! You can convert your sites yourself, or with ET@MO assistance. Resources are available at http://canvas-migration.missouri.edu if you would like to go ahead and move your sites on your own. In addition, there are significant help resources within the Canvas LMS itself, including a self-paced course for instructors, and 24/7 chat and telephone support from Canvas. During the spring semester, you will also receive an individualized email from ET@MO containing information about migrating your specific Blackboard sites to Canvas.
If you would like help converting your Blackboard site, you can e-mail email@example.com. Blackboard will be available until the end of the Fall 2017 semester, but we would like to spread out the work so that we can help as many faculty members as possible and make this a smooth transition.
